Welcome: Letters from Our New Leadership Team

Please read the following letters from the desks of our new Administration, Principal, Adam Krick, and Superintendent, Thomas Vail:

Welcome Back To School!

As the new principal of Cotopaxi Consolidated Schools it is my pleasure to welcome you back to school for the 2024-2025 school year. It is my hope that summer was full of adventure, time outdoors, time spent with loved ones and rejuvenating. I had a very busy summer moving myself and family to our new home and finishing up my previous job on a positive note. We are currently continuing to get settled into our new spot and getting the lay of the land.  I am excited to be a part of your community and look forward to building positive relationships with all of you, our students, and the community. As a new member of the community I come here with an open mind as well as bring  convictions of my own. I have the students' best interest in mind and my decisions are made with that at the core.

We will continue to build on what has been in place for the last couple of years and see where we want to make changes as the school year progresses. Our focus will continue to be on the pillars: Core Academics, Student Opportunities, Talent, Recruitment, and Retention, School Culture and Whole Child, and Building “The Cotopaxi Way” Together. Along with these as focal points, I would like to focus on involving parents as much as possible in  their students' education and supporting them in that.

With a new year brings lots of change to this district. Along with me as the new principal, we also have a new Superintendent in Tom Vail. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with him and look forward to growing in lots of ways this school year . Other new staff members and position changes include:

  • Cherith Marchase-Para

  • John Clark-Head Custodial

  • Joanne Stern-Title 1 Teacher

  • Brandon Stanley-Secondary Social Studies

  • Stacey Coleman-4th Grade Teacher

  • Bobbi Hall-1st Grade Teacher

  • Michael Stern-Grants/Fiscal Manager

  • Blayne Sumpter-Food Services

  • Nick Emond-HS Football Coach

  • Kendra Gillespie-HS Volleyball Coach

We are currently looking to fill a few more positions and hoping that happens quickly. Updates will come your way as these positions fill.

As we come into this school year, we are all on the same team and all have the same goal in mind. Think about how we as a staff, school and community can add value to each of our students in our school so they can be competitive when they take their next steps outside of school. I am excited to get to know all of you and work with you this school year.

Go Pirates!

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

I hope you and your families are having a great summer and are enjoying the remainder of your summer break.  Here at school, we are busy with final preparations for the beginning of the 2024/2025 school year.

The first day of school for all students is Monday, August 12, 2024, and will be a full day of classes.  Classes/Instruction begins each day at 7:55 a.m., dismissal is at 4:05 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

I encourage parents and community members to become involved, and/or stay involved in school and their child’s education. I strongly believe that parent and community involvement are crucial to the success of our students and of the school.  There are a variety of ways to participate.  Classroom visits that are approved by the teacher and administration are encouraged, along with meeting your student’s teachers and/or attending some of the many school events.

This year the school will be reaching out to our surrounding communities for help with implementing additional outside endeavors that will enhance your student’s education, and any help would be much appreciated.  I am promoting FMI (Fremont Multi-District Initiative), which enables high school students to earn CTE credits and helps them pursue  a career while still in high school.

Parents and community members are also encouraged to volunteer and help out in a variety of ways including reading to students, listening to students read, and helping in the classroom, and the playground. There is a specific process that Cotopaxi school follows, so if you are interested, please check in at the front office.  In addition, please consider joining these there organizations who actively support our students and their education:

  • Cotopaxi Booster Club,

  • Parent-Teacher Club,

  • Cotopaxi Lion's Club, and

  • District Accountability Committee

All of these organizations contribute to our student’s education in positive ways and would appreciate your involvement.  Your participation and pride in our school are vital for our success.  If anyone has a special skill that you would like to share with our students, please feel free to reach out to the school and share with the school/community.

On a personal side, I wanted to thank Cotopaxi for my introduction into their community and allowing me to lead their school into the future.  I hope to listen to all stakeholders, and keep an open door policy for everyone.  I look forward to working with all community entities in order to strengthen our students and school.  If you see me around, please introduce yourself.  I am truly happy to be here and can’t wait for school to start.

I encourage you  to call or stop by if you have any questions. Email is the best way to reach me, as I check it multiple times per day. If a face-to-face meeting is necessary, setting an appointment will ensure your voice is heard in a timely manner.

Please enjoy the remaining days of your summer break and let’s look forward to a positive 2024/2025 school year. Go Pirates!

Sincerely,

Thomas Vail, Superintendent
