TRANSPORATION UPDATE: Due to wind gust speeds reaching 50 mph this afternoon, we will be unable to operate our buses for afternoon routes today, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29. For the safety of all students, we ask that parents or guardians pick up their children directly from Cotopaxi Schools at the end of the school day at 4:05 p.m. If someone other than a parent or guardian will be picking up your child, please notify the school as soon as possible to ensure a smooth dismissal. Staff will remain on hand to supervise students until all families have arrived for pickup. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we prioritize student safety under these conditions. Thank you for your attention and support.

Dear Families, We want to keep you informed of tomorrow's weather predictions, which indicate the potential for high winds reaching speeds of 50 mph or greater in the afternoon. Given this forecast, we are prioritizing the safety of all students and taking proactive steps to ensure safe transportation home. At this time, we plan to run our bus routes as normal tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29, 2024. However, as we approach afternoon dismissal, we will check the wind speeds again at 2:15 p.m. If we confirm sustained winds of 50 mph or higher, we will not be able to operate our buses for afternoon routes. Should this be the case, we will promptly notify all affected families via School App/Website/Facebook and phone calls that bus riders will need to be picked up directly from Cotopaxi School. We understand that this may create additional planning for some of our families, and we appreciate your understanding and partnership as we make decisions with student safety in mind. Thank you for your support and attention to this update. We remain committed to safely serving our students and will communicate any further updates as needed. Sincerely, Thomas Vail, Superintendent Cotopaxi Consolidated Schools RE-3 c:(720) 968-5239 w:(719) 942-4131 x111 tvail@cotopaxire3.org

On October 23rd the 4th Grade class took a walking field trip to the Cotopaxi-Mullins History Center. We learned about local history through a presentation given by Mrs. Denney, and the students were able to ask her several questions about our town. We then walked through and talked about the displays and the many articles available to view. The students were very engaged and seemed to have a great time learning about where we live. We brought back copies of news clippings to read and study in class.

Julie Nutter shows the kids how our teeth help to chew up our food.
Julie talks about the difference between meat eater teeth and vegetable eating teeth - do you know which is which?

Up this month, we have JC with a keepsake box he put together. Can you believe this started with one small length of 2x6, milled down? Next we have Morgan with a plaque she made for someone special in her life. Looks great kid! And finally, looking cool is Eli, with an... egg? I think. Either way, it is a nice painting job, and I hope he had fun making it.

Preschool students all have a job in a preschool. One job is the Calendar Kid, where we work on the calendar on a daily basis. We count, recite the days of the week, months of the year as well as work on cardinal (one, two, etc.) and ordinal numbers (first, second, etc.). Another job is the Day Counter. We track the number of days we have been in school by counting and adding a "person" to the jar. The kids also help with determining what numbers we use to write the number on our chart-recognizing numbers.

Cadance is our Calendar Kid. She taps each number as we help say the number. We then decide what the pattern is and why.
Harleigh is our Day Counter. She points and leads all the kids in counting how many days we have been in school.

This month, 4th grade has been learning about the figurative and literal use of the word "heart." We started out studying how a person can show a figurative good heart, and have now moved into what it means to have a good heart literally. We are learning about the structures of the heart and taking a journey in the book "The Circulatory Story" on a red blood cell throughout the body.
